What my therapist told me helped me a lot, so maybe it will help you too.
When you start to feel a panic attack coming on, REMEMBER TO BREATHE. Panic attacks are a result of chemicals, endorphins, adrenaline being released from your brain, if you freak out, it will only make it worse.
Remind yourself that there is a chemical reason for this, and the longer you give into it, the longer it will last.
If you remember to breathe, maybe count to 100 in your head, it will help calm you down. If you don’t let it take over, than it can only last as long as it takes the chemicals to work through your system.
Panic attacks are CHEMICALLY based. Remind yourself that, just keep repeating it to yourself over and over. If you don’t freak out, then your brain will stop releasing the chemicals, and it’ll die down in 15+ minutes.
Hope it helps.
I have panic attacks also..over nothing! The way I get rid of them is..I breath real deep and slow..then I tell myself I am ok. Over and over again. And if that dosn’t work I tell my husband and he hold me and tells me I’m ok until it subsides. I have never taken any medication for it, because I can usually get it to go away on my own..some times I feel like my heart is going to explode or I am going to pass out, but after a few minutes of breathing I am alright.
Hope this helps. If not, maybe you should talk to your doctor about how to deal with it.
Have you tried breathing techniques or hypnotherapy?
Yes. Start drinking tea. When you get a panic attack, try to relax as much as you can, and drink some chamomille tea, its a natural relaxant. It will calm you down. Also, try to get your mind away from panic by listening to music, picking up a book and reading…anything to un-focus you from the attack. I recently got off anxiety meds and Im trying to deal with my anxiety naturally and these things help me.
