They are extremely painful (especially in the chest) and terrifying. I have tried Xanax, Zoloft. Nothing helps. Please, I can’t live like this much longer..
I have had anxious feelings, but only twice have I had the chest pains from it. It seems to help when I take really deep breaths and try to focus on something else besides what is causing the anxiety. Try shifting your focus to things that are soothing to you, things that you enjoy. And always remember, things are never as bad as what they seem. You will get through it, you always survive, so relax and try to enjoy life.
tranquilizers, lorazapam, clorazapam etc
systematic desesitization (research that)
don’t quit any current meds suddenly, that makes it worse as does forgetting to take them. You need to be weeded off. Alot of it is mental as hard as it is to believe but if you are ever over anxiety, you usually realise that.
I will always say diet and exercise because they often work better than meds, just that its harder to stay on top of then popping pills, but diet and exercise stabalize chemicals, naturally produce changes chemicals etc with out nasty side effects. Not just eating healthy, but knowing what to eat that is best for you. If you don’t absorb certain nutrience or you have reactions to certain foods, thats an important factor often with mental health.
As hard as it is, as much as anxiety holds you back, physical activity often quickly reduces or makes anxiety symptoms (mental and physical) vanish, for lack of better phrase “just do it”
have to tried to seek the help of a therapist i use to get them really bad and a therapist helped alot plus they have better anxiety meds than the reg docs theres a new inhaler that stops the attack when it starts
Something a little outside the box. Aromatherapy works great. Burning lavender and/or jasmine oil in your home will greatly reduce your stress levels. It must be real essential oil though. Imitation doe not work. You can also try drinking Chamomile tea 2-3 times a day. You will be calm and relaxed in no time.
I would also suggest trying different forms of meditation. It will help you to focus and balance yourself. I did all this with my boyfriend. He HAD panic attacks like yours. He has been attack free for over 8 months now.
ived suffered 5 years and im only now getting controll ,no pills are good forever you have to learn how to control it urself ,and it will take time ,its called the fight or flight ,u either run from it or fight it ,you will have to do this in little steps ,i panic when people are around me u know strangers ,but try not to run from the situation totaly try and move to a different area ,get a hold on ur self and go back ,the more u do this the better it will be ,
its horrible and very scary and you will think u r having a heart attach but u wont,,,the more u worry the more intense it gets ,believe it or not this is normal as back in cave man times we had to run before we got eaten ,so we would release exstra adrenilan into our blood ,and as we run we would wee ,and poo our selves to make us faster and lighter to run ,this is why when people panic they feel they really badly neen the tiolet
you will shake and sweat ,,youe heart will pound hard you feel light headed and you legs may feel like they cant hold you no more ,u think u r gonna die,,but when u panic u tend to breath fast ,take a paper bag every where you go and if you feel one coming on breath slowly into the bag ,fight it back u can do it ,but it will be the hardest thing u have ever had to do in ur life, but by breathing in the air that you have breathedout you are taking in less oxygen and slowly stoping the adrenilan fron releasing too fast and causing u to panic more,
do u know what situations are causing you to panic ,if so try not to avoid them ,but take it very slow ,do not rely on medication alone or you will never learn how to cope with out them ,
stat away from stimulants like coffee, chocolate, instead eat more honey ,and drink camomile tea, listern to relaxation music ,and slow ur self down ,dont do anything fast,or u will release more adrenilan, cut down smokeing if u smoke, you need to keep realy calm, and in time you will get used to this new calmer you ,and its loverly ,when u dont have a panic, but dont be put off if u have another ,as they like to surprise you ,be ready for it ,always now away out of a place and always know where the toilets are, always have a papper bag with you ,and any madication u r on as this will help in the early days as you learn to cope better on ur own cut the medication down just a small bit as even this has to be done very very slowly ,it took me 6 months to get off mine ,and 5 years to learn how to cope and im still having bad days but not as bad as they were,im slowly getting better,
this is my email address trinnyhiggs @hotmail.com its their for you if you need to talk about your panic attachs,as i have now been studing it for about three years now and have told my therapist i will give up my time to help other that suffer the same as me ,,so please feel free to either email me or add me to ur msn ,im here to help you if i can ,
by helping you i also am helping myself ,so look foreward to hearing from you
I used to suffer badly from anxiety attacks and nothing seemed to help. They would be so bad that i wouldn’t leave the house,it felt like i was having a heart attack, they ruined my life.I felt like a hypochondriac always going to my doctor. My doctor was always too quick to give me tablets but i didn’t want to be taking tablets for the rest of my life so i decided to stop taking them and learn to live with the attacks.I moved from wales to Scotland and all the things i wouldn’t do in wales i had to do in Scotland.I had no family,no friends and no job, every time i felt an attack coming i would do something to take my mind off it and say to myself “here we go again, heres another one.”I forced myself out of the house i made friends, got a job and hardly get any attacks at all now. They are very frightening to the person who is having an attack but the only thing that’s worked for me is learning to live with them.Everyone is different though.I really hope you can overcome these attacks and get your life back as they ruled my life for a very long time.Good luck.
your stress level sounds very high. What in your past are you not dealing with. How’s your career choice?? Are you happy at your current job?? Are you in a loving relationship?? Are you happy with your physical makeup?? That’s just a few. Evaluate your current life and start to make changes immediately. Brick by brick you can rebuild and create anything you want and those anxiety attacks will disappear.
Maybe I’m not sure exactly what an anxiety attack really is, but it sounds like a psycological disease that trigger reactions. Try slowing your life down a bit and don’t plan on doing too many things in one day. What is it that causes the anxiety, there must be something stressful if the drugs aren’t helping. One other thing could be you have very high blood pressure.
Hi Joseph, i too suffer badly with anxiety attacks but with mine, they dont seem to last maybe 10 mins or an hour, mine last a continuous 8 days and nights. The last attack i had was last week and a doctor had to come out to me twice in a matter of 2 days cos i honestly thought i was dying. Ive been on Sertraline and Fluanaxol for 9 years but to be honest, i think they stopped working years ago. My last option now is Cognitive therypy. Ive read and heard so much about it and its supposed to be far more effective than any drug. Try this health board ill give you, there are so many people suffering like we are and to read their stories makes you feel your not alone. http://www.healthboards.com
Let me know what you think of it, trust me, its fantastic!
I think you are physically weak, unless there is some genetic defect (unlikely). Try to improve your strength/stamina. Also, try to isolate what gives you the anxiety attack (e.g. after certain food, or after certain thought, after seeing some photo etc). If you narrow down the reasoning it will be quite easy to overcome it.
You also need some good friends to play and laugh with. Laughing releases nitrous oxide (and vice versa) and relaxes the muscles in the body, lowering any pain and discomfort.
You have to find something to concentrate on when these attacks happen. I know that is easier said than done but if drugs aren’t working then try mind over matter.
have you tried wellbutrin? i’ve been dealing with anxiety attacks for a while now. expecially in crowded places. before i started the medication i just avoided going anywhere, but what kind of life is that? it takes a little while for the meds to get into your system, but i’m noticing a difference. the other day i went to the store and expected to start freaking out, but nothing happened!!!!! otherwise work yourself into it slowly. if you start to feel an attack coming on walk away or do something else. slowly you’ll start to see a difference. i hope you find something that will help.
When I have anxiety attacks I talk myself threw them. Just for the fact I HATE taking any drugs. I just reason with myself when I think I can’t breath. I go to the freezer open the door and breath. Then i walk around the house for a bit and then find something to keep my mind occupied. Like go on the net and play a game. It seems to help me anyway. ITs really mind over matter.
1.you need Jesus in abundance.
2.You have to change your attitude to a more level headed one ,especially when approaching new events and issues in your day today life. Its all in the attitude you have adopted,
3.Believe in the strength within you to live/accept things you cannot change and Trust in God , pray and Meditate when ever you feel funny.
4.Always try your best to have fun, lively company and chuck off from those guys who will always make you feel anxious
I had panic attacks soon after I hooked up with a psycho girlfriend. I thought that breaking up with her would stop the attacks, but it didn’t. I haven’t had one in over 5 years now. I have had to change the way I deal with stressful situations. Basically, if you try to live by The Serenity Prayer (”God, grant me the serenity…”), it will help keep your priorities in order. The other thing to practice is “letting it go”. You have to conciously put things out of your mind that are not worth worrying about. You must be careful not to “pack it away” for later. Things that fall into that category would be news events that have nothing to do with you personally, but cause you stress. I stopped watching the news. You wouldn’t believe how much that helped. All the prescription medication has ever done for me is to make my behaviour tolerable for other people. It caused me to be unable to concentrate at work. I don’t think any of that stuff works. It is aimed at the symptoms rather than the cause of the affliction. I found 3 natural supplements from an article in Psychology Today magazine that I have taken for the last 5 years.
SAMe
L-Tyrosine
5-HTP
You can find these in almost any vitamin store. Some pharmacies have started to stock them at a more reasonable price. I hope this helps. Good luck.
P.S.
I can’t believe that voodoo jerk’s answer. If I find his address, I’ll give it to you and help you tie his pencil neck into a knot. That helps to prevent panic attacks too. It’s better to be non-violent when dealing with the stressfull things in life that you can take control of, but this guy…. I wouldn’t take the time to piss on him if his face was on fire.
Along with the others advice to try you might want to look into meditation. I found that after I started meditaion my anxiety was better than any medications I’d been on!
This stuff works - plain and simple: I to take it before my flights and it is what helped me overcome my fear of flying. Take this at the onset of stress or if you know you are going into a stressful situation such as a plane ride in my case.
Order it now that way you have it when you need it because you will regret not having it later.

stick with the benzo’s xanax, klonopin and try acute group therapy
try splitting your pills in half. I knw there is a pill you can buy that u take half and it makes you sleep it off or just breath in a paper bag.
