I've heard that if you hold your breath as soon as you feel the slightest sense of an attack coming on, then it'll go away quickly. They say that it'll be hard and it'll make you feel like you are sufficiating yourself, but it's better because you learn how to control yourself. Good luck! ;)

Tomorrow ---
I'm not sure you'll have time before the first day of classes.......
There is a proceedure you can do that can help with making modifications for you, so that you can go to school and not be penalized for doing things a little differently than most kids, in order to accomodate your problem.
Go to your Dr. Ask him to write a note to your school, and to actually speak on the phone with your school counselor.
Ask your Dr. or therapist to write down specific accomodations that can be made to help you lessen the anxiety and panic while you learn new skills to deal with it.
((KEEP A COPY FOR YOURSELF))
At school you need to meet with your counselor (it would have been much more easier to do this before school starts), hand over the Dr.s note - and discuss how the school might be able to assist in making accomodations
that would assist you in having a successful school year
as you are learning to live a life where you will become less anxious. (In therapy or group therapy)
Suggested accomodation:
Permission to change classes after the bell rings -- without being counted as "Tardy".
This will allow you to remain in your previous classroom while the whole crowd is in the halls, and then as the bell rings, you can step out into a hall with fewer people out there, scooting quickly to your next class, arriving just a minute or two after the bell rings.
Try to keep some crackers with you, and eat one between each class. This will help to settle your stomach.

I have trouble with anxiety too. I actually go to the point where I did get a prescription for anxiety attacks, but I've been able to keep myself calm more lately, without having to rely on meds.
Try to keep your environment organized and structured. I'm a very disorganized, last minute person, and working on this part of my life has made a HUGE difference, believe it or not.
As soon as you being feeling anxious, try to think of/do something you really enjoy, that relaxes you. Listen to a favorite, soothing song. Take a walk...Close your eyes, imagine yourself at the beach or somewhere you really enjoy and try to breathe slowly.
My anxiety usually comes at night as I'm laying in bed. I've found that if I take a hot bath before I lay down to sleep, I'm much more relaxed and spend less time thinking.
I know it can be rough but just try to stick with things that bring you job when your mind starts to race, something that will bring you back and level you out. Good luck, hun.

I am dealing with anxiety too, actually. I am terrified of blood, my hands getting dirty, crowded spaces, plus many other things. I am PETRIFIED of vomit, it's ridiculous. I've had severe panic/anxiety attacks too, one of which caused me to black out on a busy sidewalk in the middle of Washington DC.
Right now, the way I'm coping with this issue is by branching out. My mom is having me watch Grey's Anatomy with her so I can watch the surgery scenes. I'm still terrified of blood, but I'm starting to get used to it. I don't know about you, but I'd like to be able to watch a horror movie with my friends without passing out in the theater. ;)
A lot of therapists, if say.. their client is afraid of vomit, will have them watch videos of it. At first, they cover their eyes/ears whenever they need to, but after a little bit, they start to get used to it.
So for whatever fears you have, try and face them. Give it all you got, because if I can do it, you can too. ;)
Good luck! :D

Comment on How To I Prevent Panic Attacks While Sleeping? by Emily

Stress is the chief cause of most anxiety, panic and social phobias. But stress is not just about feeling tense and wired. It's about the triggering of our hard-wired "Fight or Flight Response." And it's about the release of toxic hormones — drip, drip drip — into our system. These hormones seep into our blood and tissues where, over time, they set up conditions for "attacks" of fear, anxiety and panic.
Panic attacks can be debilitating both for you and for those around you. It is not an experience we want to live through again. Just what are some ways we can Overcome Anxiety and Stop Panic Attacks?
Here are some tips that have proven useful.
* You can apply some lavender oil to relax and de-stress your nerves. Just one drop near your lobes does wonders. * Avoid high caffeine drinks as they stimulate your system and pile on more stress instead of relaxation. * Add a dash of lemon in green tea to relax your nerves.. * Try all simple remedies before taking any anti-stress pills. It's always easy to start on them but almost impossible to stop. Most have unpleasant side affects. * For adults usually a combination of a light drug and remedies works more effectively. * Stay away from the cause of your anxiety and tension. As "prevention acts better than cure". * In some women, anxiety may be caused (or worsened) by low hormone levels, most commonly progesterone...and progesterone levels drop in times of stress (such as the holidays). Progesterone helps keep serotonin levels from dropping too low, and low serotonin can cause anxiety & depression. Doctors can test for low progesterone and prescribe it (though many doctors are unaware of the link with anxiety-depression).
* If problem persists for longer time please consult a medical adviser. Most suggestions are suitable only for shorter periods of anxieties, where the causes can be discovered and reasoned out. * Even the lightest pills should be consumed only after consulting a physician to "avoid conflicts" with other medications. * If these suggestions do not help, and nervousness still reflects in the behavior of the person at social gatherings. Then perhaps it is some kind of anxiety disorder calling for a medical cure. * These measures do not stand-in for medical help, it may do you good in mild problems. For severe acts of phobia it's definitely best to consult a physician.

I also have bad anxiety, one time I had an appointment with a doctor but I was having attacks before I could get in. I ended up in the emergency room (cuz I was throwing up, delirious from lack of sleep, etc) but they gave me pills at the emergency room. Good luck and hope your case is not as bad as mine was, cuz it was miserable.

When I asked my grandfather who had been in WWI in France and saw a lot and experienced a lot there and here in 88 years- he said dying isn't that easy- meaning what you fear is usually not going to happen and you can't do a damn thing about it. So stop being anxiuos and view everything as a challenge if you want- an adventure- not something fearful.
